Youse It

I've had my sister staying with us over the weekend as she's moving to Sheffield very soon. On the Saturday morning we went to this exhibition and pop up shop by Youse. It's run by mine and Ben's friend Sarah and it's full of colouful and quirky vintage and handmade stationery and art.

Fargo Feels

There's a new vintage clothes store that's recently opened in York called Chinese Laundry and God damn it's all killer. We went to York last month to do our Christmas shopping for everyone and ended up spending something like £118 in this shop just on ourselves. My eye was immediately drawn to this coat because of the colour - you know I love me some rust! Anyway, as soon as I realised it was also suede I was friggin' having it regardless of price.
Ben got a gorgeous coat too and some really nice checked shirts. There were other things I was actually gonna buy too until I remembered we were there to buy for other people so I put them back.

I call it my Fargo coat because I feel pretty '70's North Dakota in it. Oh and a nice touch was that deep in one of the pockets was an old US cent.
It was a seriously good shop, you should check them out. They're on Facebook and Instagram.

Ps. Did you watch the 2nd season of Fargo? How handsome is Angus Sampson!?

A Very Vintage Breakfast

Well I think it's safe to say that Alex and I have found our new favourite place. I know I probably say that after every breakfast date we go on but I mean it this time. This place is high tea heaven!
It's Jameson's Tea Rooms on Abbeydale Road where we'd been meaning to go for a while. Now that we've been I can't understand how it took us so long! It's like stepping back in time when you walk in, with it's 1930's-esque layout and decor. I'm actually watching Boardwalk Empire at the moment and it was like being on set. Even the music was of that era. Plus the waiters and waitresses were dressed up in vintage attire which made it all the more delightful.

There was a variety of speciality teas to choose from which arrived in these wonderfully over the top tea pots. Alex had English breakfast and I had a lovely rose tea. It would be the perfect place to come for the full high tea experience with the girls.

It was possibly the most sophisticated breakfast date we've been on yet. We both agreed we need to become regulars here and I'm sure we will, I'm looking forward to going back already. Perfect for a sunny morning.

Side Note: My laptop's been so slow recently that I thought I would try the blogger app for Iphone. I started this post as a draft and saved it for later, just for the app to publish it with no content! Has anyone else tried the app and had the same thing happen?

The Creative Directory: Bowler Vintage

http://bowlervintage.co.uk/

In a sentence:
The greatest vintage shop in Yorkshire and certainly one of York's many treasures.

Without a doubt, every time I visit York I visit Bowler and last Tuesday was no exception. As soon as you walk in the door you're presented with this vast emporium of richness. I can't stress enough how much I love this place! I have so many things I've bought from here. I've got my sunglasses, polka dot shirt and two paisley shirts and a wooly hat for Ben.
It's such a good place for vintage gear because they have such a large range of everything, you're really spoiled for choice. I must take Alex here some day, she would just die!

The sunglasses here are always absolutely killer. I was umm-ing and ahh-ing over those orange ones for a long time. I eventually decided it was probably for the best to save my last bit of cash for the bus. Seeing them again now has made me realize that was a terrible decision. Style before common sense God damn it!

It's a must see in person if you're ever in York but if you're further a field you should have a look through the online shop.
Ps. Check out their Instagram for the cutest dog you'll ever see!

'NANCY' RED TILE SHIFT

'BETTY' TAHITI TWO PIECE

'BETTY' TROPICAL TWO PIECE
'EDIE' DALMATIAN PRINT MINI

My Favourite:

If you've got a penchant for paisley this is clearly something for you. I really love the retro vibes you get from these pieces, they'll no doubt turn some heads down the street!
They're designed in Blackburn, Lancashire. The vintage fabrics are chosen and fashioned into a delicious mix of retro garments with a modern edge. Harmonise the look with big earrings and even bigger hair.
I'm trying to decide if I could get away with wearing one of those two piece bikinis, not sure I would with such pale skin though!

Patterns + A Pinafore

Wow what's this, an outfit post? Not done one of these for ages. I've been in a bit of a blogging slump lately but me and Alex have joined forces for a blog day and been...successful, kind of. If drinking tea and eating biscuits is considered successful. Which of course it is. Anyway, I was lying in bed recently when I pieced together this outfit in my head. Of course! that pinafore dress would look good with a patterned blouse beneath it! Of course! Orla Kiely blouse!
Some serious vintage vibes going off here with my mum's latest find, this 1920's parasol. It's so delicate and pretty and looks lovely in the sunshine.

I'm wearing this with my Bertie Brogues that Ben got me for Christmas. They're such good quality. My mum always says you should always be well shod because that's where you touch the Earth and the elements! The only downside to them is that they have absolutely no grip at all, that's why I've not been wearing them while we've had such a lot of snow and ice.

On another note, you'll have to excuse my latest hair disaster. I put a platinum dye on to do my really dark roots, didn't leave it on long enough even though I left it on longer than it said to, and so the roots are now yellow. To add to that I forgot to bring any toner to my mum's house so it's totally untoned. Ah well I'll get some tomorrow and just have weird yellow roots next to white hair! I must say though, there's a lot to be said for silver shampoo. I used some this morning just on my fringe and it's noticeably less yellow than the rest of it. I really would recommend a silver shampoo if you're blonde or white.

Blouse - Orla Kiely Old from Ebay
Pinafore Dress - H&M Old
Shoes - Bertie

Ps. I've got two weeks off work now for my birthday, wahoo!! So I'll have more time for some new posts I've got lined up.

Hope you're having a good weekend.
