Hair Devotion

That time's rolled round again, it's been six months since my last hair cut and oh man do I know about it. I've been painfully aware of my hair recently, of how dry and dead the ends were and it just looked awful more often than not. 

Seeing as I don't have my hair cut very often and when I do, all I usually have done is a wash and cut, I shop around for the best price. So I had a look on Groupon and saw a deal for a local hairdressers I had never heard of. I was a bit weary at first seeing as it's in a pretty bad area of the city and I wondered how good it was gonna be if they needed to give huge discounts to get customers in. But I'm a tight arse so I went for it anyway.

How wrong I was to have judged! I had a wonderful experience! It's a new place called Hair Devotion on City Road in Sheffield. It's only been open for four weeks that's why the owner is giving out Groupon vouchers. She's called Carly and she couldn't have been nicer! She was really lovely and did me an awesome new cut. I've now got only the slightest bit of blonde left at the bottom and it feels so healthy. Not to mention that gorgeous 'just been to the salon' smell.

Norton Cemetery

 

 

 

I was driving through my neighbourhood back to our house a few weeks ago and ended up taking a wrong turn. I found myself ascending up a really steep road for ages and ages and then suddenly on the crest there appeared all these ancient graves behind an old wall. I thought wow where the hell am I? It turns out it's Norton Cemetery and it's only a few streets away from me!

 

Ben and I went for a proper look around it on the morning of my birthday. It's set on six acres and has fantastic views of the Sheaf Valley and the city. I went again not long after with my mum to show her around it because she loves graveyards and cemeteries too. That's why some photo's are grey and misty and some are clearly taken on a sunny (but cold) day!

 

Mum was saying it would be interesting to see the names and info about the people buried here because they no doubt will have lived in this area and it would be nice to find someone who used to live in my house.

The Big Quarter Century!

 

Last Saturday, on the 13th, I turned 25. On the morning me and Ben went for a walk around Norton Cemetery - post to come later. It's possibly the most beautiful cemetery I've ever seen and I never realised that it's actually only a few streets away from us (albeit all uphill).

 



After lunch we went to the cinema to see Spotlight which was really good. You can follow me on Mubi  and see my other film ratings here.

Then in the evening we went for Japanese food at Sakushi. We had a takeaway from them a while ago and it was delicious. When we're not familiar with a particular cuisine we just order loads of unusual sounding things. We ended up having a feast and it was awesome however they did forget one part of the order so they gave us a discount voucher for when you book a table at the restaurant. So we did and it was amazing.

We had all kinds of sushi, eel, octopus and even flying fish caviar which was bright red! I would definitely recommend it.

 

 

 Oh and look at this cake that Ben had the bakers at his work make especially for me. Four layers!!

Youse It

I've had my sister staying with us over the weekend as she's moving to Sheffield very soon. On the Saturday morning we went to this exhibition and pop up shop by Youse. It's run by mine and Ben's friend Sarah and it's full of colouful and quirky vintage and handmade stationery and art.

Life Lately: October '15

Wow, crikey it's been a while! Kind of dropped off the radar a bit there didn't I?! I realise there have been a fair few Project 365's that I've missed since being back from our holiday and instead of trying to back date them all I'm going to bundle them into a 'Life Lately' post - I've not done one of these since just before moving into our first flat!

We had a charity bike ride at work (something I had to recruit everyone for as the 'Great Place To Work' rep) and well only me, Nia and the manager from our store actually did it so that shows how persuasive I am. Oh well, there were loads more from other stores doing it and it ended up being a really fun ride. I could get into it.

I've been busy knitting socks and putting them in my Etsy shop. Even though it's October it's actually been quite warm recently but we're still definitely in knit season! Here are a few of them from Schooner House. Check them out, I'd love to hear what you think.

  

We had a Macmillan coffee morning at work the other week and it was glorious. It was only for us colleagues rather than for customers too so there was loads of cake for days!

The whole family was invited round to my brother's house recently for what ended up being one hell of a family day as you can see! These are all my brothers and cousins and their wives and kids.

Look what a kind person from our neighbourhood was giving away! We had to recruit some friends to help us move it, one woman with a van and after taking two doors completely out of their frames we finally got it in. It's a bit out of tune but hell, it sounds good to me. I've actually been writing a lot lately and have so far conjured up two songs that I'm actually really happy with. I think I'm gonna go and record them when they're ready. 

That's pretty much all I can remember of what's happened since we've been back from Italy. If you didn't see our holiday photo's they're here and here. Other than that we've both just been working. I'm currently the baker as our permanent baker is off having reconstructive knee surgery and to be honest I'd rather be him than have to deal with ravenous students during a bloody cookie promotion! It's chaos trying to keep up!

A Very Vintage Breakfast

Well I think it's safe to say that Alex and I have found our new favourite place. I know I probably say that after every breakfast date we go on but I mean it this time. This place is high tea heaven!

It's Jameson's Tea Rooms on Abbeydale Road where we'd been meaning to go for a while. Now that we've been I can't understand how it took us so long! It's like stepping back in time when you walk in, with it's 1930's-esque layout and decor. I'm actually watching Boardwalk Empire at the moment and it was like being on set. Even the music was of that era. Plus the waiters and waitresses were dressed up in vintage attire which made it all the more delightful.

There was a variety of speciality teas to choose from which arrived in these wonderfully over the top tea pots. Alex had English breakfast and I had a lovely rose tea. It would be the perfect place to come for the full high tea experience with the girls.

It was possibly the most sophisticated breakfast date we've been on yet. We both agreed we need to become regulars here and I'm sure we will, I'm looking forward to going back already. Perfect for a sunny morning.

Side Note: My laptop's been so slow recently that I thought I would try the blogger app for Iphone. I started this post as a draft and saved it for later, just for the app to publish it with no content! Has anyone else tried the app and had the same thing happen?

Back To The Bob

Hey guys, I lost all my hair!

I went to Parachute for my bi annual hair cut. This is the result and I couldn't be happier with it. I've had a good four inches or so off and it feels great. Just in time for our holiday in a few weeks!

I'm growing all my natural colour out as you can probably see. It's coming along nicely and after having such a big chunk cut off it's on it's way to looking dip dyed now!

I'm channeling some serious mod vibes here in my new jumper from H&M, I freaking love mustard yellow, with an old navy woolen skirt from Topshop.
