Project 365: Week 25

Day 163: Going through all the stuff that the last occupant left in the cellar and discovered, along with hundreds of books, such treasures as a camera, cowboy boot (singular), photo of woman with tarantula and best of all... someone's personal (and oh so apathetic) diary! Bingo!

Day 164: I've put this on the wall in the studio where I can see it as I sit and attempt to be creative. Thanks Frankie!

Day 165: I've been on my travels recently to lovely old York to see some friends. More on that later!

Day 166: More house plants!! These ones are gifts from my mum and are flowering!

Day 167: Me, Ben and my sister Sophie went to The Rude Shipyard for tea the other day. Here's me not actually playing a banjo because it was so very out of tune. Not that I would have anyway!

Day 168: Ahhh so cute! Not ashamed to say I was excited to use some of these stickers this week! >.<

Day 169: A week off work so you know what that means! I'm sure we've seen this design before...

What have you been up to lately?

Starry Night Nails

Having two weeks off work brings a world of joy to me. Lying in, having breakfast at 8 rather than 6 and most enjoyably, being able to have painted nails! There's just something about freshly painted nails that's so satisfying. I love nail art and nail stickers and for some reason I seem to be drawn to really bright, garish colours. I believe I once had neon yellow toe nails which was... well, not a good look really.
And you know what I've found out and you probably have too, that the best nail varnishes I've got are the really cheap ones I've picked up here and there. The cheap and cheerful ones always seem to be thicker and last longer before they start to chip. That being said though, I can't say I've ever really splashed out on any and I know there are some stupidly expensive ones out there.
But yeah, these two are pretty cheap but they're very reliable. I really like how they look. I've been jazzing them all up with glittery top coats recently.

I've been trying to leave my cuticles alone recently because when I try to groom them in any way they just get all torn up and look gross! I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but for now I'm not doing anything to them except put this hand cream on them that Alex got me for my birthday which is gorgeous.

Nail Stickers

If only I could have my nails painted all the time. That's how I'd have it if I could but unfortunately my work wont allow it. I know, it beggars belief! I'd love to do nail posts more regularly but for now it'll have to be just once in a while.
Anyway I had a few days off recently and so took the opportunity to wear my cactus nail stickers that I blogged about here.

How cute are these. I was debating whether to stick them onto an already painted nail which would have had to have been a light powder blue colour because all my greens would be too dark. I didn't think powder blue was right for them so I put them instead onto a plain nail. I've got a lot left out of the pack of 24 so I can experiment next time with colour.

They went on really easily, topped off with a few coats of clear varnish.

Side Note: I've been attempting to 'deal' with my cuticles recently and made a bit of a mess. I wasn't really sure if I was meant to be pushing them back or trying to remove them altogether. I ended up trying to remove them with the edge of nail scissors. I'd really appreciate some cuticle advice from all you tidy nail experts, I know you're out there!

Current Loves: Cacti

Not just a current love, an ongoing life long love. Ben bought me a beautiful one for my birthday as well as a huge succulent. They currently live with him in Sheffield because I don't want to risk damaging them trying to transport them to York. Plus I'll be moving there myself next month (I've got a transfer with Sainsbury's!) so they're lapping up the sun on his windowsil for now. I can't wait to find a nice sunny corner for them when we get our own place.

Meanwhile, I've found and bought some other things to satisfy my cacti needs...

Kate Broughton

I found these nail transfers on etsy recently and squealed a little bit. I saw them, loved them and now I own them. They're by Kate Broughton and when I visited her full shop - oh my, there wasn't much I didn't want. I also bought the cacti writing set even though they're too nice to send to other people!

Something else I'd love to have in our flat is this 1870's Cactus Botanical Chromolithograph print. In a thin wooden frame it'd look great.

Lastly, for now, is this shower curtain. I just love it. Hopefully Ben will too, though I suppose he'll have to seeing as I've already bought it...Ha!
