The Creative Directory: Lee Lund

In a sentence:
Illustrator Lee Lund has risen from the fires of Carlisle, bringing with him a bold fresh style much influenced by the Vikings and Norse culture.

Sample the goods:

Branding for a craft beer brewery

Book of London graffiti translated into stories

Booklet explain how to build a Viking Longship
Design to encourage students to get themselves 'to the library!'

Based in York and having studied at the University of Cumbria, Lee's style is quite heavily lead by the Vikings, who were scary people. He also likes drawing a lot of skulls and wolves which are equally scary things to look at. On the other hand, Lee himself is quite the friendly fellow so it all works out in the end, especially for Lee who may or may not have been Loki in a past life.

So there he is; beer branding, ship building, library graphics, tattoo designs.... that should pretty much cover all your illustration needs surely?
Plus he's currently working on a logo for pop punk band You Know Nothing and more craft beer designs.

The Creative Directory: Karoline Rerrie

In a sentence:
An illustrator and screen printer from Birmingham creating bold, colourful Eastern European folk art inspired designs which certainly don't fail to catch the eye.

Sample the goods:

Why:
As you can see, an absolute feast for the eyes. Luckily for the rest of us though, Karoline is also nice enough to teach us how to do it too! She hosts various screen printing workshops which you can keep up to date with on twitter.
She's also part of a collaborative project with other female illustrators called Girls Who Draw who join forces every year to produce a book of postcards, two designs by each artist. The sixth edition is out currently and is full of charming aquatic designs.

I say go have a look!

I Must Go Down To The Seas Again

Last weekend Alex and I did what we do best when we meet up and had a massive cooked breakfast. We're making our way round the city sampling all the breakfasts on offer and this weekend we stopped by The Rude Shipyard.
First things first, I love this place. It's a quaint and quirky bookshop/cafĂ© on Abbeydale Road and is a pretty cool place to go and just chill. It's an absolute wonderland. It's full of cosy rooms with creaky floorboards and of course books! Lots and lots of books (plus the odd banjo). It's the perfect place for a folk performance.

I'm usually all about the pancakes when it comes to breakfast but this time we both had a full English. Alex had a regular and I went for the veggie version and it was beautiful. All homemade and free range.

There are loads of really nice characteristic features like the table having an old Singer sewing base beneath it! There was also a room with an old banjo and mandolin in and not to mention the beautiful original wooden floorboards. It's actually a really nice building and would be lovely to live in, well I suppose it will have been someone's home at one point!

So it's definitely the place to go if you're after somewhere a little more peaceful than the hustle and bustle of the city centre. We both said we're definitely going to go more regularly and luckily it's not too far from where me and Ben are moving to.

Don't forget to check out Alex's post on it too!

The Creative Directory: Wirely

http://www.wirelyhome.com/

In a sentence:
Are you a plant person? Are you terribly chic and have a thing for contemporary minimalism? If so, allow me to introduce you to the wonders of wirely. You're welcome!

Sample the goods:

Crunchy Apple Green Metal Wire Plant Stand

Copper Metal Wire Plant Stand

Mauve modular table top - Medium
Mid century inspired wooden candle holder - Medium

My favourite:

It's pretty hard to pick a favourite but there's just something about yellow that does something to a person's mood. It's a delight to look at! I also really like the mini stands too as Ben and I have a lot of plants on plates on tables, so a short one would be brilliant.

Why:
At last! No more balancing plants inconveniently on the edge of tables where that one ray of sunlight manages to hit every so often. No more craning your head to see around the two foot succulent perched beside - but kind of in front of - the tv. That's us! Now they can stand tall, perfectly placed in corners and by windows.

They're made by Australian duo Emer Diviney and Anne Davies who take inspiration from inherited pieces from family members and the modernist architecture of their surroundings.

The simplicity of the design is so striking, it's very ercol-esque and refreshing for those new spring blooms. If you want to ooh and ahh some more, here's where you can find them:
