Hey guys, once again I've been busy knitting myself silly. On the upside though I've figured out how to make fingerless gloves. They're my greatest creation since the slipper socks!

I've finally created a Facebook page for my Etsy shop Schooner House so if you like what you see, pop over and check it out. I'm trying to spread the message that there are so many of us independent makers and creators out there who are pouring all our time and energy into these handmade creations. Oh and I've finally finished that embroidery that I was doing for our friend Joeley. At times I did feel like going down to the seas again....and walking straight into it! Haha nah, I am glad it's finished though. Can't wait to see it when it's been framed.

It's pretty hard to pick a favourite but there's just something about yellow that does something to a person's mood. It's a delight to look at! I also really like the mini stands too as Ben and I have a lot of plants on plates on tables, so a short one would be brilliant.



Why:
At last! No more balancing plants inconveniently on the edge of tables where that one ray of sunlight manages to hit every so often. No more craning your head to see around the two foot succulent perched beside - but kind of in front of - the tv. That's us! Now they can stand tall, perfectly placed in corners and by windows.

They're made by Australian duo Emer Diviney and Anne Davies who take inspiration from inherited pieces from family members and the modernist architecture of their surroundings.

The simplicity of the design is so striking, it's very ercol-esque and refreshing for those new spring blooms. If you want to ooh and ahh some more, here's where you can find them:

Gillies Fabrics

 

 

Guys, are you seeing what I'm seeing? This place is amazing! It's Gillies Fabrics in York and it's an absolute wonderland of colour and texture. It's sew good guys and it seams to be the best darning haberdasheries ever! Ahem.

It's actually quite huge inside and around each corner are more tailoring treasures to discover. I was entranced by that wall of fabric for a good ten minutes.

  

 

 

 

 

 

I was in York a couple of weeks ago when I had my car serviced and was looking forward to coming in here only to be greeted by a big renovating sign! I was so gutted but it was worth the wait. I'll have to bring Alex here, she'd love it! We're due a sewing day and I certainly could do with the help.

Cute Handmade Bat Chains

Hey guys, long time no see! Hope you're having a spooky week of crisp golden mornings and pumpkin spiced evenings.
I've been a bit quiet recently and it's because my weekends have been a bit packed. They've been really fun but not the easiest to then blog about! I've stayed at my mum's new house, then I visited my friend Beth in Loughborough where we intended to see the Nottingham festival of words but instead jammed with the guitars all weekend - much more fun. 
Then this weekend we've just had Ben's old school friend Mattia staying with us. One thing I have had the spare time to do though is be a little bit crafty and make some cute as hell bat decorations for halloween - not that I need any more. Oh well!

I cut them out of some unwanted prints I did not so long ago, painted them and voila!

The Listeners

I want to share with you something very special to me.
I was recently given as a gift from my mother, the original design for an embroidery of the Walter De La Mare poem 'The Listeners'.

It's an incredibly haunting poem of a traveller returning to a house deliver a message and finding nobody to receive it. However he is heard by something within the house...

I've framed it because it means so much to me. It was done by my late aunty Kathryn 23 years ago. She put so much work into it, designing the border so it flows and reflects perfectly around the edge - notice the W and M at the top and bottom - so it couldn't be more unique. One of my cousins has the completed embroidery somewhere which I've never seen but would love to.

My mum gave this to me seeing as it was made in 1991 when I was born. I'm so grateful that it's been passed down to me and that I've been trusted to take care of it. I absolutely will, as you can see I've displayed it proudly on the wall.

It may not seem like much to some people, but for me, to have a piece of art, the only one in existence that's been created by someone who's no longer in the world is amazing. Someone of my own family too, and having been so close to my mother - they were identical twins, makes it very special to me. She's still being appreciated!

If you haven't heard of Fifi Sweetpea, then you're about to now. This post is to show you all another talent in the World, who also happens to be my sister!
If you like cutesy, crocheted critters and whatnot then take a look. Each piece is handmade and take it from me - many hours are put in to each one.

Her tagline for her brand is 'Happiness Is Handmade' and she's all about things being handmade with a lot of love put into them and that's what makes her happy. She's very much into nature and the outdoors, you can find out more about her on her own blog too.

There are brooches, pincushions, doilys and she's just recently finished knitting herself a shrug. A labour of love if ever I've seen one! One of my favourite things that she's made, and this wont come as a surprise to anyone:

Stationary Obsession

Okay, okay so I have a thing about stationary. My Pinterest page must have given me away! I know a lot of you may think this post pointless, but I just can't deny the joy that a little card with a cactus on brings me.
Stickers, notecards, journals, tape - put a cute design on it and I'll surely love it. I've never been so organised since I started this blog, I've surprised myself! It's even extended to expenses and budget planners (don't I sound fun?!)
Anyhoo I thought why not share with you guys the wonders within my ever growing stationary box...

I sent these notecards out to friends as 'our new address' cards.

And not forgetting the lovely cactus writing set mentioned here.
