Home Is Happiness on wood

You don't really need to guess twice as to why this is a favourite of mine but it certainly will make you look twice. A real striking piece that would look marvelous on any wall.

Why:

Well it's certainly the first time I've ever seen something screen printed onto wood. I think this stuff is gorgeous. They also do a stationery and textiles range which is equally lovely.

Last Day Gratitude

What a horrible, brilliant day yesterday was. I worked my last shift at my Monks Cross store, 'twas a poignant day to say the least! I'm glad it was a 10pm finish so I could slip out without an audience. I was really dreading it because I knew I wouldn't be able to hold it together, and of course, I couldn't! I was choking them back on several occasions throughout the day. My colleagues were so generous though, there was a mountain of presents for me which I would have liked to have been able to open there and then but there was just no way. The flood gates would have really opened and there would have been no way to recover from it let alone carry on working and serving customers! I really love them though, they've been shared on Facebook and I want to share them with you too. Look how lovely they are!

As you can see a beautiful bounty. A handmade cushion with cool retro print made by my crafty friend Helen Bowden. You can and should check out the rest of her stuff here. A bottle of Chardonnay, Thorntons choccies, a really cool antique coal iron (wow!) and lastly, the most extravagant of all, the Betty's tea set hamper. This is so gorgeous. Betty's is pretty well renowned here in England. There are only 6 of them, all in Yorkshire. There are two here in York and I've never not seen a queue out the door going down the street. It's a very high end place, as you'll see below the Queen also uses it's fine bone china!

Antique Coal Iron!

So thank you to everyone, the last four years have been the best. I feel genuinely lucky to know you. Now on to new hilly horizons!

A Fine Hand

Of all the job titles I'd like to be able to apply to myself, Freelance Calligrapher sounds like a pretty fun one. I can't however claim to be one, my mother Sharon Ellor, on the other hand is exactly that! This skill, copperplate script calligraphy, is one she's perfected over the past five decades. I personally consider her to be perfect at it and I've been improving my own attempts in the last five years but compared to my mum....well I'm sure you'll be able to tell which photos are of my writing! She just never makes a mistake, even in the slightest. I hope with more practice I'll be as precise as her one day.

My poetry journal with quotes written by Sharon

We usually refer to it as Victorian Copperplate Script but I think the terms are quite specific and are determined by things like the type and thickness of the nib. So really she has just an old fashioned, English handwriting.

'Mother' by E. A Allen written by Sharon

I have a journal that she gave me for Christmas a few years ago that I write all my favourite poems in. Not half full yet but I plan to hand it down to my children when I'm old! The first few in it are quite badly written but I can see as I go through that I'm improving with time!

some of my writing

Monograms are another thing she does really well. She's done a lot for different people and this one is the combination of B and C for Ben and Charlotte. I'd like to use it somehow in our wedding, maybe as a border for the invites?

Lord knows I love curls and swirls!
