Hello November! Let us reminisce..

Oh God yeah, that 10k I did. Go me! Haven't actually run since then, oops.

Pretty pumpkins and squashes in at Sharrow Marrow.

I stopped working, got my phone and went outside to take this photo which, as lovely as it is, doesn't do it justice. Sky photos never do, do they!? But it was wonderful!

Visiting Beth in Loughborough where we recorded a whole album of terrible covers!

We ventured into Nottingham to see a poetry reading that neither of us were really moved by, too modern for us.
We saw some cool things while we were walking around though, check out the lovely Art Nouveau on that building and the big weird dish!
Also, Beth has this really cool plant on her kitchen window sill. It's a False Shamrock and in the daytime it's purple petals open out and then fold back into little triangles at night. So cool.

Re stocked my cards in their little box in Bird's Yard in town. Check 'em out.

Mum had the big 61. 10th of the 10th at 10 past 10!

At last! Parsnips are back in which means homely parsnip soup on a cold evening.

..and made some new ones!

And finally, Halloween itself. I was going to go as Pat Garrett but it turns out the event we went to had a '40's theme with a halloween twist'. Oh my it was amazing, such a good night. A bunch of us got bee-hived (not very 40's but oh well) and went to a secret gig to see Rob Heron And The Tea Pad Orchestra. These guys blew me away. Pokey LaFarge meets Blind Willie McTell and they looked the part too!

You should definitely check them out.

In Other News

I'm going to arrange an induction at the Sheffield Print Club when I've got a free weekend. I've got loads of ideas for prints I want to do so I'll hopefully get going with that this month.

Halloween Decorations Are Up!

I should probably be a tad embarrassed about how much I've been looking forward to putting up the Halloween decorations, how I cracked a smile as I was walking down the street after work when I remembered what I could finally do when I got in. Apparently though, I know no shame. I just wanted to decorate!! I mean, come on, who doesn't love decorating for Halloween?
Some of you guys must surely be anticipating it too - don't think I'm not waiting to see yours! I'd probably steal your ideas too if I hadn't already over done it. Only joking - there's no such thing as over doing it when it comes to adorning a living room with tack, haha!

Nah, some of it is tack, but it's always been a tradition with me and mum to put these decorations up - and to keep doing so until they've died a death, no pun intended! So yeah, they are a bit crinkly, dusty and everything came out of the box as one big tangled mass thanks to the fake cobwebs, but that's what makes them. And it's all part of the tradition to spend the first half an hour untangling! Even the big fake spider had a big real web all across it which made me smile. How appropriate! I kept it on obvs. 

There are a few handmade ones that me and Ben painted I think... three years ago. Crikey that's gone fast. I really love the skeletons on the prairie one that Ben did. There's something a bit haunting about it. Oh and I love the munchkin pumpkins on the bookcase, I just bought those today. So cute!


All I need now is the big pumpkin. I'll get that nearer the date though.

Halloween's on the Horizon!

I know I'm gonna find it difficult to put into words how excited I am for Halloween - and I don't even have plans yet. Let's just say it's up there with Christmas for me. I just freakin' love everything about it! The decorating, dressing up, being cosy inside with friends when it's all cold, dark and autumny outside and of course all the black and orange...oh and pumpkins!
I've always loved dressing up, and I love to really go for it. If something's worth doing it's worth doing right, right down to having a real cigar to summon the spirit of Bonnie Parker...

That was my outfit last year. Dead Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunnaway version) but in trousers to show off the boots, which I'm sure will make an appearance in some of the autumn outfit posts. And yes I did buy a blonde wig for no other reason than to be Bonnie and no I haven't worn it since. Ha!

Anyway it's got me thinking, who or what can I dress up as this year?

For a while we've said we need to do Gomez and Morticia Addams at some point but there's always been something else I've wanted to do more. Hmm I'll have to start having a good think about it now, I may need to buy props!
